Dr. Athanasios K. Petridis is an Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery in University of Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He is also a Co-Director of the Spine Fellowship Program of AO Spine. He completed his Postdoc in the field of CNS-Regeneration from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), New York. Dr. Petridis research interest is CNS-Regeneration, Stem cell regeneration and neurosurgical papers.

Dr. Muramatsu is currently a Professor of Neurology at Jichi Medical University (JMU) in Japan. He received his MD and PhD from JMU. He completed his neurology residency at both Gunma University and JMU. He was a visiting associate at National Institutes of Health in USA from1995 to 1997. He received the Award for Excellent Research (2001) and the TAKARA Bio Award (2011) from the Japan Society of Gene Therapy. Hisresearch group has been developing gene therapies for treating neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s disease (PD), Alzheimer’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis using adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors. Dr. Muramatsu’s expertise has contributed to a clinical trial of gene therapy for aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency in Taiwan.

Prof. Calabrese obtained his PhD in Psychology and a medical habilitation degree in experimental neurology (MDhabil) and medical neuropsychology at the University of Bochum (Germany). He has received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biology at the University of Konstanz (Germany) as well as preclinical medicine at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). He is also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and holds an european diploma in preventive medicine. Prof. Calabrese research focus is in the field of diagnosis and treatmentof neuropsychological and behavioral disturbances in neuropsychiatric patients (with a focus on PD, AD and MS). He is involved in the conceptualization of several clinical trails in the field of behavioral neurology and psychiatry.

Dr. Kieran C. Breen is a Director of Research and Innovation at Parkinsons UK. He completed his Ph.D in Pharmacology/Neuroscience at University College, Dublin in 1987. Dr. Breen was a Director of Alzeimers Disease Research Centre in University of Dundee in 2005.

etsumori Yamashima MD, PhD is a consultant neurosurgeon specialized in neuroscience. In 1975, he graduated from Kanazawa University Faculty of Medicine. In 1979, he completed his research diploma in the Kanazawa University Graduate School Medical Research Course (Doctor of Medicine). He then studied abroad in Germany and Sweden, including neuropathology and brain science. He became Chief of Medical Staff at Kanazawa University Hospital, Associate Professor of Kanazawa University Medical Faculty, and Director of Restorative Neurosurgery at Kanazawa University Graduate School of Medical Science. At present, he is CEO of the Arimatsu Medical and Dental Clinic in Kanazawa city, works at this clinic (Tuesday to Saturday), and at Minami-gaoka Hospital (consultant neurosurgeon: Monday mornings). At Kanazawa University Hospital (part-time lecturer: Monday afternoons), he heads a special “higher brain dysfunction” outpatient clinic. Dr. Hiroshi Nakanishi is currently a Professor of Departmet of Aging Science and Pharmacology, Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University. He completed his PhD in Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University and his post-doctoral training at Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, the University of Tennessee at Memphis. He became an Associate Professor at Department of Pharmacology in 1999, and a Professor of Laboratory of Oral Aging Science, Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University in 2000. He was the Dean of Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University from 2011 to 2013. Dr. Kenneth M. Heilman received his M.D. degree from the University of Virginia in 1963. He was a PGY 1&2 in internal medicine at Cornell University Medical Center-Bellevue Hospital (1963-65). During the Vietnam War he joined the Air Force and was Chief of Medicine at NATO Hospital, Izmir, Turkey (1965-1967). After his service, he took a Neurology residency and fellowship at the Harvard Neurological Unit of Boston City (1967-1970), first with Dr. Denny-Brown and then with Dr. Norman Geschwind. In 1970 he joined the faculty at the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1973 and Professor in 1975. Dr. Pappolla is currently a Professor appointment with the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston . Dr. Pappolla received his MD degree from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina in 1978. His training includes a PhD Doctorate in Human aging in Barcelona, Spain and medical residencies and fellowships in the USA in Neurology, Anatomic Pathology, Neuropathology and Interventional Pain Medicine (Anesthesia based). This training required 10 additional years of post graduate medical education, all pursued in programs accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Dr. Pappolla's research interest is in the development of treatments for neurological degenerative diseases. He has patented and developed novel neuroprotective agents such as OX-1 (now on phase 2 trial for Friedriech ataxia) and melatonin related analogs for Alzheimer's disease.
